Renshi Douglas is a Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan world champion and currently holds the rank of Godan (5th degree black belt). He teaches free self-defence classes and conflict resolution throughout the rural areas of the Boland (Western Cape) and fighting on-going drug wars in the community is a passion very close to his heart.
It is with this passion that he teaches karate to De Keur’s youth every Wednesday afternoon. His hard work has paid off and on the 25 October 2014, 15 of these students attempted to graduate to the next level. The graduation ceremony was held in Ceres and the exam was judged by a full panel of Shorinkan Black Belts according to international standards. 13 of the students progressed to 10 Kyu. 2 of the students did exceptionally well and progressed to 9 Kyu.
De Keur is very proud of these karate kids and are looking forward to following their progress in the years to come.
